Stanford Medical Student Association (SMSA)

AMSA: American Medical Student Association

If there is one national student organization you should absolutely become a member of, it is AMSA! AMSA used to be affiliated with the American Medical Association, but not anymore. AMSA became independent from the AMA in 1968 and has led the way in medical education reform and promoting access to care for the medically underserved. Membership has its dazzling benefits. These include a free Netter Atlas of Anatomy, free travel to conferences, and huge book discounts. You also receive the magazine med student-written New Physician for which you can write articles and get published! You also receive discounted auto insurance, credit cards, med school loans, and more. AMSA provides an array of public service opportunities, summer fellowships, leadership training seminars, and conferences. If you want to make a difference in medicine in the interest of the people we will be serving, AMSA is the organization to help you do just that.
